When asked if Diddy wanted to follow Jay Z into the sports agency business, he expressed a bigger ambition. “I love sports, but I’m more of an owner type of guy, so I have aspirations to become, which it will happen,†Diddy told Bloomberg TV. “I will become the first African-American majority owner. Not having a small stake, but actually owning an NFL team. I think it’s time for that. The majority of the players in the NFL are African-American, but there are no African-American owners. That’s one of my dreams, but then when I see my friend having a sports agency, I support him.†While it seems unlikely to those who do not follow hip-hop, Diddy has achieved incredible success because of his Ciroc vodka brand in addition to his record label Bad Boy, Sean John clothing line and he was named the richest star in hip-hop by Forbes in March, due to his overall wealth of $580 million. Source: Yahoo! Sports markaz's Take: Probably not a shock that Diddy and his music are far from what I listen to in music. But I admire the guy as a very good businessman and if any of these wanna be professional sports owners really get serious because of their ridiculous bank, my nod goes to Sean Combs and would expect him to be successful. He surrounds himself with the right people.
I'm not sure he has the $$$ to be a majority owner right now if he isonly worth $580m. He needs to keep building some wealth. Maybe in 10 years he will be there
Good takes and I agree. But if any of these"artists" who actually have some business acumen can amass the capital required, I could see Combs as one of the very few that could give it a go. What you gentlemen mention about the necessary stake to own a franchise could very well be the reason the NFL may be forced to lower the % requirement as football is not the only revenue source for NFL owners and any kind of downtick in their other businesses could easily drop them below the 30% stake required. The Exxon Steelers and IBM Dolphins! Interesting.
Considering Haslam just paid a billion dollars for a 70% stake in the Browns, I'd say Diddy has a reeeeeeeal long ways to go before he's got the kind of scratch he needs to pull it off. Even if he's worth 528 million, only a fraction of that would likely be liquid enough to put towards the purchase of a team...good luck to him, but realistically he's probably going to have to put a group of investors together and be a minority shareholder to get it done, if at all.
Guy cant make up his mnd on what jackass nickname he wants to go by and he says he wants to own a team ?
