The big-play guys among NFL rookies this year are getting themselves noticed more on defense than offense and that's odd, considering the way the league is so skewed toward piling up points. Here's a pick-6 of the top freshmen halfway through the NFL schedule, listed alphabetically: Source: Timesonline markaz's Take: Just a great crop of rookies listed here and the Honorable Mention list is just as impressive. Always like to see the Tyrann Mathieu-type player where they drop like a rock on draft day only to prove themselves on Sundays in the NFL.
Mathieus best seasons may be his first couple of years. He has something to prove but he strikes me as the type that will put in the effort in the short term to prove himself and then once everyone is idolizing him again, he will back off.
Mingo's been solid. Dude looks fast, has monstrous arms and is playing with more strength than I expected.
I really didn't love the pick, but he's hard to miss on the field. He applies a lot of pressure, is lightning fast like I already said, and has a great sense of where he needs to be to get the most direct route to the QB. I've been very pleasantly surprised with his play so far.
