When the Green Bay Packers drafted running back Eddie Lacy at the end of the second round of last year's NFL Draft, many pundits believed that league's model franchise had gotten great value at a position of need. As it turns out, the Packers need Lacy more than ever after quarterback Aaron Rodgers confirmed that he broke his left (non-throwing) collarbone in Monday night's 27-20 loss to the Chicago Bears. Source: SportingNews markaz's Take: What a great performance by Lacey in the Packers loss to the Bears. Now with Rodgers on the shelf for a minimum of 3 weeks, the Pack will have to rely on a very balanced attack led by the Lacey and the ground game.
Be interesting how much Lacy has left in the tank from here to the end of the year. A rook running Earl Campbell style, game in & game out, would seem to have a brick wall somewhere in his future.
Kid's a heavy load but he keeps this style up & he'll end up like Earl. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9sWor5AWcQ]Earl Campbell steps out [Sept. 8, 2012] - YouTube[/ame] & that would be a shame. Seems like a nice kid who's now got a huge target on his chest.
So far, he's been able to hold up and prove the haters wrong. I have no doubt that opposing teams will load up the box in order to stop the run, thats the smart play and thats what I would do if I were a DC as well.
