In the locker room after the Lions 37-27 loss to the Steelers, Reggie Bush surmised he was benched by a coaching decision related to his ball security issues earlier in the contest, but coach Jim Schwartz refuted that suggestion, Justin Rogers of Mlive reports. On Monday, Schwartz said the decision had more to do with Bush's workload and the team's desire to get Ridrod involved. "It was just a couple plays," Schwartz said. "We didn't have Joique (Bell) at that time. He had gone out of the game and Reggie had been taking a lot of reps. You know, we wanted to take a little bit of that load off of him." Bush coughed up the ball and seemed to disappear yesterday, plain and simple.
Meh...I can see why Schwartz would bench Bush. Heinz Field isn't conducive to Bush's running style. He's a "fast track" kinda guy and Bell is more of a mudder. The condition of Heinz Field was better fitted for a mudder than Bush. He slipped down twice behind the line that I can remember.
