The NFL salary cap limit is $133 million for the 2014 fiscal year, a $10 million increase from last year.

According to the NFL Players Association, teams averaged a carry-over of $6.1 million per team from 2013 to 2014.

So, most teams have an average of $139.1 million to allocate for 2014 player salaries in 2014.

The salary cap is calculated by taking a percentage of all projected NFL revenues and subtracting projected benefits for the upcoming season, and dividing by 32 teams.

Under the current collective bargaining agreemnent, teams have minimum cash spending requirements. For the years 2013- through 2016, teams are required to spend an average of 89 percent of the salary cap over the four-year period. NFL teams must spend an average of 9 of the Salary Cap over the four-year period.

"This creates a cash-spend floor, forcing historically low-spending clubs to offer overall competitive compensation for packages," the union said.

This certainly opens some doors for the Cards to explore. Brandon Albert at OT is no longer a pipe dream...can acutally happen and also be able to sign Karlos Dansby to a nice one-year deal without the signing bonus. Lots of scenarios for a lot of teams.

Definitely helps the Steelers...and with a couple extensions/re-structures/cuts, the Steelers could get that much needed cap relief.

This might open some doors for the Ware negotiations.

Now we get to see who the best numbers crunchers and GM's. Christmas came early for 32 teams and teams like the Browns, Jags, Raiders and the like will have a tough time with making excuses for sucking in a couple of years.

If we can unload JG, we will be sitting pretty damn good. Thanks JG Wentworth.

Can't say I totally agree with this. The best number crunchers already had there teams in position to have room to play in FA,although I do agree that Christmas just came early for some. The Browns will continue to struggle until they get stability in the front office/coaching ranks. While money talks,I wonder how many FAs are telling there agents "please don't hook me up with Cleveland!"

Most Cowboys fans I know are idiots. TE/WR is nowhere near our team's needs. But I have learned to live with that.

No. It's more like $20-$30 million. $50 million over is ridiculous.

They have to. At least 89% or something. Besides a salary cap, there's a salary floor now.

Today, in Yahoo Sports NFL blog, Shutdown Corner, they are reporting that Romo, Lee, and Scandrick are going to redo their contracts. As of now, the Cowboys are less than $1 million under the salary cap.
