Are the Cowboys rebuilding? On the contrary I would actually lead you to believe that Jerry Jones & Family has actually done a very good job so far in this year’s free agency period. I believe the moves they have made so far is putting the team in a good place to make a run […] Read the whole post here.
Alot rides on if they get another productive DE via FA, the draft or both. Mincy and Selvie should be productive in a rrotation. Barely pass muster as full blown starters though. The interior will be stronger considering the addition of Melton and the fact they are getting two solid players, Crawford and Bass, back from injury With the amount people talk up the Eagles and down on Dallas, the gap is VERY narrow and neither team has really done anything to widen or close it
Jihad Joe, You make some very valid points. But, I do not think the Cowboys can afford to sign another productive DE via free agency. The Cowboys are definitely bargain shoppers this year, but I truly believe they have made their defense better with the signings of Mincey, McClain, and Melton. I always try to remember something I have heard for many years: The teams that spend big in free agency are usually not playing in January. The Cowboys have not spent big, but they have made themselves better. You hit the nail right on the head about the interior of the defense being stronger. Making the defensive line better will also help out the defensive backs.
I dont think they need to spend big. A guy like Ayers on a 1 year deal or Spencer of his knee checks out ( big if) would help alot. None of Ayers, Mincy, or Selvie are players you want as full time starters, but in limited snaps you can get consitant pressure from the DE position. If you roll with those 3 and an Anthony Barr ( whom is on the Cowboys radar) or Kony Elay you have decent set of DEs and young player to groom as your signature pass rusher
