Could Johnny Football become Johnny Baseball?

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel was drafted in the 28th round by the San Diego Padres on Saturday in the Major League Baseball draft.

    He was selected 837th overall.

Manziel was listed as a shortstop from Texas A&M, but the Heisman Trophy winner never played baseball for the Aggies.

Manziel, who's making his bid for the starting job in Cleveland, is considered unlikely to play professional baseball. He was selected in the first round with the 22nd overall pick by the Browns.

''Big thank you to the (at)Padres and (at)padresmikedee for selecting me in the MLB draft,'' Manziel wrote on Twitter.. ''What a great day!''

Dee, the Padres' president and CEO, tweeted back: ''Best athlete on the board... (hash)JohnnyBaseball.''

Manziel played baseball and football at Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas.

In May last year, Manziel took batting practice with the Padres and threw out the first pitch.

Padres president Mike Dee wrote on Twitter: :Best athlete on the board… #JohnnyBaseball” along with a photo of Manziel in a Padres jersey and hat holding a baseball.

If nothing else, this was a good publicity move for the Padres.

why do you think they wasted a draft pick on him? didn't play college ball. just a way to get their name in print.
