We had a 12 team PPR but four guys dropped out last year. I've been made the new league manager and we've replaced one so we're at 9 teams. I'd like to get back to 12 but I'm thinking we'll end up with 10 teams this year. If I go to 3WR with 10 teams will that effectively kill the WW for WR?Currently teams start 2QB (via superflex), 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, K, D/ST
Our 10 team league used 2 running backs, 3 receivers and a RB/WR/TE flex. The WW depends on bench spots. Plus people will load up on more than 2 quarterbacks since you can flex one (Couple owners are sure to do this). That could help produce more receivers to pick up.
I've done 12 team leagues that started 2-5 RB and 3-5 WR - the more players you allow folks to start the more your league rewards people with skills and not just luck.
It totally rewards the draft ability of people which I like. I hate being able to start multiple flex positions. Pretty much takes all the strategy out of the draft and allows people to just draft the best available player all the way down with no thought behind it. Theoretically, with those flex positions, you could have the computer draft best available for you and do alright...lol.
So with 2QB's and 3WR's I'm thinking of bumping up the RB points from 1 for 10 yds to 1.25 or 1.5 for 10, to keep the ground game relevant. Make any sense? Greg you're right about the QB's...one guy drafted four last year including P. Manning. He won the league. Not in a runaway but he won. Six guys on the bench by the way. If I go to 3WR should I keep it at that or drop to a 5 man bench? Thanks for the help guys.
I know of some leagues that are bumping up points for running backs because of the lack of talent this year past 6-7 guys. So that does make sense. This is how I'd list my starting lineup. 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1 Flex (QB, RB, WR) You can even make it tight end like we did in our auction league) K D/ST 5 bench spots is plenty. You still want owners to have the ability to actually use the waiver wire during the season. Make it more, there won't be a lot there.
Hell I'm thinking of starting a Dynasty with some friends, 6-8 team league and starting 3RBs 4WRs 2 QBs and a flex. So you'll be fine.
Greg said some teams are bumping up the RB scoring. With essentially a 2QB league I'd like to see guys have to think a bit about the RB before just grabbing another QB. Top guy in rushing yards last year McCoy 1607 total, 100.4 per game. If I add .25 or .5 of a point to the 1 point per 10 rushing yards and McCoy has an average 100 yard ground game instead of ten points for rushing he'd get 12.5 or 15 respectively. With his 2013 rushing point total 1607/10=160, the new bump would up his his yearly rushing points total to an extra 40 at .25 or .80 at .5. I think my math is right. If so which number (or another #) do you think is the best to use. Our top points scored by position last year ended up looking like this so I think we have some room to bump up the RB's a bit. QB - 556, 521, 386, 384, 374 363, 355, 353, 352, 335..down to #20 at 243 RB - 399, 370, 364, 290, 275, 267, 257, 255, 253, 250....down to #20 at 180 WR - 378, 357, 356, 354, 346, 328, 321, 314, 314, 305...down to #20 at 222
Ordinarily I would say .25. But since this is a QB flex, bump the running backs up another .5. See how it works draft wise and total points by the end of the year. It should even out some with those lower tier running backs who aren't in a committee, but falling a bit like L. Bell.
