For a while now, the NBA has been force-feeding us this whole “mid-season tournament” idea while we continue to push it away like a kid does his vegetables. Commissioner Silver and Co. have been testing the waters ad nauseum which can only mean it’s coming to a season near us sooner, rather than later.

I love the idea!! I say go for it. European soccer leagues (and most american ones, including Mexico) have their own cup tournament in the middle of the season and sometimes the games are insanely good, even better than in the leagues. Don't reject it just because you don't like it or comes from another place. If you're so concerned about burn out, have fewer league games, you have too many, anyway.

There's a league champion and a cup champion. The main one, the most important one, is the league champion, of course, with the cup champion acting as a "consolation prize" so to speak. Both champions usually play at the end of the year, or beginning of the next one in a "super cup" match, or "champion of champions" in Mexico.

Oh, and teams who win both championships in the same year (we call it a "double") usually are considered dynasties.
