Trevon Diggs signed a 5-year 97 million extension. Can't find the guarantee yet but it's upd there for sure. He becomes the second highest paid corner in the league. One down, three to go (Ceedee, Zack, Dak).
The guaranteed money is 42 million. Less than half of the full contract. As usual, it's a "two years and we'll see" kind of deal.
Justin Herbert is the new highest paid player in NFL history with his 5-year 262 million deal, with like 198 million guaranteed. Somewhere in Cincinatti Joe Burrow got excited. Also Aaron Rodgers re-structured his deal with the Jets. No, he didn "give up" 35 million dollars, that would be ridiculous. He just re-structured it so the team can move the cap around, nothing more...
Ah, yes...the first week of training camps when players go from doing nothing to full speed football in like a day, and nobody can figure out why everybody gets hurt so soon. Patrick Ramsey had knee surgery and will miss the start of the season.
A little bitterness came through in this one, boys, as the restaurant we were at didn't have the Hall of Fame Game on their DirecTV package... So much for free football - Sports Chump
I have become so detached and uninterested. The Cowboys played a game on saturday (first preseason game, but a game nonetheless) and I didn't even know until I got the alert with the final score. Just 3 or 4 years ago I remember planning my whole afternoon after that first preseason game... We're talking about preseason, man...not a game...practice.
Jerry Jones caved and gave Zack Martin what he wanted. A raise to 18 million per year, guaranteed for this year and next. Zack comes back to camp and I can breathe again... In other news, Zeke Elliott is signing with the Patriots. I'd rather have him with the Eagles or Washington...oh, well...best of luck to him.
If they do, it will not be because of Zeke or lack of him XD. It will be because one coach is Bill Bellichick and the other is Mike McCarthy.
Got my annual over/under contest up and running, boys. Got a pretty sweet first prize this year if I do say so myself. As always, free to enter. Show me what ya' got! SportsChump’s 13th Annual NFL Over/Under Pick ‘Em Contest - Sports Chump
If you used to read TMQ (Tuesday Morning Quarterback) it's back, but behind a paywall. It costs 50 bucks a year, and after cancelling The Athletic, I'm really thinking about it. Google Gregg Easterbrook Substack and you'll find it. I used to read most of it back in the day. I skipped the political mumbo-jumbo but the football content is top notch. That's why I'm doubting if I should just pay for it or let it go...
So Marcus Mariota has reportedly been awful in camp and then last night he was abysmal. He was overthrowing wide open receivers left and right. So now this morning, of course, all the talk in Philly is about signing Nick Foles to back up Hurts. I can't take it. Foles is only 34 years old even though it seems that he's been around forever, but I think he's cooked otherwise I think someone would have signed him by now. I don't mind bringing him in to take a look if the coaching staff feels the same way the fans do about Mariota, but I think it's a long shot that he would be a big improvement. I was very anti signing Foles again when Wentz was still here because he could have been a distraction since the fans love him so much for his SB performance. Now I don't think it would be a distraction at all because this is clearly Hurts' team and Foles may be better to help out rookie Tanner McKee since they have a similar style. I just hope Mariota plays well next week so this all goes away.
Here's a little Sean Payton vs. Nathaniel Hackett, James Harden vs. Daryl Morey and Michael Oher vs. Sandra Bullock chatter. Chumpservations, v. 42: The “Can’t We All Just Get Along” Edition (Sean Payton vs. Nathaniel Hackett; James Harden vs. Daryl Morey; and Michael Oher vs. Sandra Bullock) - Sports Chump And thanks for the heads up on TMQ, Teej. I'll look into it.
Good stuff, Chump. I want both Harden & Morey gone. This Sixers team is so unlikeable outside of a few players like Maxey & Harris. There's constant drama and chatter amongst these underachievers.
