What a horrible way for the Phillies season to end, losing 3 games to 1 to the Mets of all teams. The lack of discipline at the plate was maddening. No matter how far out of the strike zone the ball was, our hitters chased it. I can't believe how bad the bullpen was either. They were perhaps best in all of baseball during the regular season. The Mets were the better team the whole second half of the season though. They took it to us. I won't wish them luck but I will at least say I would prefer them win it all than the Yankees or Dodgers.
Damn. I don't want to root for the Mets, but a Yankees - Dodgers World Series would be painful to watch...so I'm a Guardians fan now?
Phils open the season at the Nationals tomorrow. The Phillies didn't have too many major changes to the team., the biggest one being Max Kepler will be their new left fielder. He had a big spring. Hopefully it's a sign that he's back in his old form. The bullpen no longer has Jeff Hoffman. That will be tough to replace. Word is that Jose Alvardo has been untouchable this spring. Having a good year from him is so needed. I don't trust his consistency of his command though. The Phils are still a good team, but the Braves are healthy this year and the Mets are much improved with Soto in their lineup. We could have an excellent season and still finish in 3rd place. The NL East is a brutal division. Not sure it matters much with how stacked the Dodgers are. I'm just glad baseball is back. Summer is almost here!
And the hope for a Mariners vs. Phillies World Series begins again!! Good luck, Chuck!! Here's for a great season.
It wasn't pretty striking out 19 times in the first game of the season, but the shadows had a lot to do with it. A comeback opening day win, even against a bad team like the Nationals, is still a win. I'm going to try to not get emotional after every game. I'm going to care more about what happens series by series. One win away from winning a series. Lets stockpile them.
Phils won 2 of 3 in Washington. No real big stories out of it. Pretty much as expected. Now they come back home to start a 3 game series against the Rockies.
Phils complete sweep of the lowly Rockies. 5-1 on the season now. They haven’t faced real competition yet though. That changes tomorrow as the 8-0 Dodgers come to town. This should be a good early gauge of the team. I wish Wheeler was starting one of the games. I’m honestly just hoping that we do not get swept.
Phils handed Dodgers their first loss last night. Great pitching by Jesus Luzardo. Many Phillies fans claimed they didn’t do enough in the offseason, but he’s been lights out in his 2 starts. Phils are now 6-1 in their last 7 the past 2 seasons against the Dodgers.
Great series by the Phils to take 2 of 3 against the Dodgers. Our starting pitching is so good. The bullpen looks a bit shaky as Jordan Romano has been awful. The Castellano grand slam yesterday was electric. For an early April series, it sure had a playoff atomosphere. Phils now go to Atlanta to face their struggling division rivals. Hopefully we can take the series and really put themselves in a real good position against the Braves. Phils record in series this season: 3-0
Phils lost a tough one in extra innings last night in Atlanta. The 1 1/2 hour delay was brutal. All 3 games were close, but the Braves took the series 2-1. It stinks that we didn't really dig them a big hole as their pitching will get healthy with Strider coming back soon. Our bullpen was lights out last year until the playoffs. This year I don't have true trust in any of them. I really miss Jeff Hoffman. We are tied with the Mets for first place. On to St. Louis for a series. Phils record in series this season: 3-1.
Awful weekend for the Phils. They lost 2 of 3 in St. Louis, including getting shutout twice. The offense is in a real funk right now, especially Bohm & Marsh. They can't get hits with runners in scoring position. It's been very frustrating to watch. We are now a game behind the Mets. Things may get a lot tougher as the Giants come in for a 4 game series. Phils record in series this season: 3-2.
Phils split the 4 game series with the Giants. The losses were fairly lopsided so it felt like a lost series. I'm concerned about Nola. He's now 0-4 and his ERA has to be over 6. The bullpen also continues to be a problem. I really miss Hoffman, who seems to be completely healthy in Toronto. The offense is just as inconsistent as last year. Not much has changed so far. They not to really look too deep into things until around Memorial Day, but it's tough not to do so. 3 game series with the Marlins coming up this weekend. We are a half game behind the Mets, their game starts soon. Phils record in series this season: 3-2-1.
