He must have been really close to Kordell to feel that way. It became obvious that Stewart wasn't going to be a top notch QB and he was going to make too much money for his worth.
Agreed, Dawk. From reading above, it did seem Jerome was close to Kordell, just Kordell wasn't going to be top notch QB, so they got rid of him. Can't blame them, he was going to get payed for more than he was worth. Bettis seemed displeased by a lot things The Steelers Organization did. Jerome seems to have a lot to say in that book. Maybe I'll check it out when the price of it drops.
NFL is definitely about wages....Kordell wasn't worth the money he was going to get. In the long run the Steelers made the right move there. Took a couple of years but they got Roethlisberger and another ring. Jerome got his ring too....I am glad Bettis was with the Steelers and got his ring but....if someone asked me my favorite Steelers ever....Jerome would barely make my top ten. Hall of Famer? Yes....my favorite?....Nawww.. Enjoy the book.......lol Also....ever notice how many Steelers go on and have great careers after they are released or not re-signed? Lots that have moved on looking for the "big" contract that Steelers wouldn't offer and how many made pro bowl after Steelers?....hmmmmm....
Kordell was not worth the $$ to merit a "setting up for failure" type scenario. He was let go because he was inconsistent and really started to get more consistently crapty in his last couple of seasons in Pitt. Woodson and Lake are the only ones I can think of that went on to still be productive NFL players for a decent amount of time.
