Lord I wish this "Running QB" topic would just die already. There is a big difference between players that have decent athletic skill but have that pocket feel and players that tuck and run. The running QB is truly a bad joke, kept alive by the once and a decade player like Steve Young or Roger Staubach. However, unlike Kordell Stewerts, Michael Vicks and Alex Smiths, they were exceptional passers whose feet added to their game. When will the NFL learn and stop trying to turn athletes into passers instead of working with passers on their athleticism? Image the wonders if a Carson Palmer, Warren Moon or a Dan Marino had spent serious time on their running skills.
John Elway was the best mobile qb I know of. He was great at rolling out and pitching the bomb. The kind of plays that Ben Makes remind me of Elway.....and I am not saying Ben is Elway but big strong body that can gain some extra time and accuracy outside the pocket remind me of Elways play. Steelers can only hope that Roethlisberger comes close to Elways play over the years.
this was just a media thing imo they badly wanted to make a big stink og the rb who can be a mediocre qb
I must say there is a big difference between running QB's and QB's that have the ability to get outside the pocket avoid the rush and throw a accurate pbutt. There is no room in the NFL for an all out running QB. Yes, Vick could run, but wasn't very accurate at all. Also, once defenses realized what to look for his running went down completely and when he did run he paid for it. I would take a pocket passer/small scrambler ability QB over a running QB anyday. Let's see a Manning, Brady, Farve, Marino, or Moon.. or a Vick, McNair, Carr, or Young (Vince) Not a hard decision in my opinion, but I will say I think Vince Young will become more of a pocket passer than a scrambler.
Vy is not a running QB, btw. Anyone who thinks so has not seen him play as a pro. I agree. A guy like Vick will never win a Super Bowl. But since there has only been one semi-successful QB like that it's not saying much.
