God i dont know about the rest of you but the way people on the .com talk about this guy is ridiculous. For those that dont know and im unaware of if the same thing is going on here but the .com board is all over this guys nuts like hes the next big thing. He is very shakey in his pass protection and gets literally no push in run blocking. I just dont get the hype of this guy who may be nothing more then average and thats all I have seen from him is average play. Yes hes a rookie but I would like to see a little bit more outta him rather then average. Personally Id of much rather seen Kwame out there at least then we would be able to run and the pass protection wouldnt be much worse. I do think he would fare much better at LT and Jennings(if we dont cut him) at RT would be much better. Sadly he is one of the better lineman out there only Baas is playing better then him and that says alot about Heitmann Allen and Snyder
...And if it wasn't for him, you guys would have people clamoring with you to trade up and you could've probably gotten a OL as good as Staley along with another decent position pick. Granted you didn't know you'd be one of the worst teams in the NFL but still. And of all people to have your top 5 pick, the Pats...
Kwame?????? OMG Misfits, snap out of it, heck....as you said he is a rookie and I don't think he's done that badly this season, Jonas Jennings is freaking gone and good riddance the guy can't freaking stay healthy he was the bad pick in the first place. Kwame????:kicknads: You want overrated ck out #11, now that's overrated!!!
Okay...this is a tough subject. You have to consider that Staley was a project to begin with. He is a small school guy first of all, so he hasn't played at that high of a level of competition to this point. He was, coming in, fairly undersized, but with a frame that can pack on another 20-30 pounds easily. He's VERY sound technically, but again undersized and his strength was probably the biggest question coming into the draft. He has played pretty well so far, misfitz is wayyy underplaying his level of play...he's not the greatest run blocker, but he has been one of the better pass blockers on the team for the most part. He is a rookie. What do you expect, pro-bowl caliber play out of a rookie off the bat? That's ridiculous. He was shoved into the starting lineup out of the gates (probably prematurely) and everyone expected him to be outstanding immediately. He has been easily as solid as any offensive lineman on the team, and that alone is a lot to say for any rookie, let alone a small school low-round pick TACKLE. Now, I'm not "on his nuts", or really at all happy with the trade that brought him here, but he has been better than I expected. I honestly saw him sitting behind Kwame for at minimum the early season, getting some garbage time reps and getting used to the speed of the game and the level of play he was going to be dealing with. But no. He was #1 from day one, and I think he has done quite well under the circumstances. Was he worth giving up a top 5 pick? Maybe in the long run...but probably not...I hated the trade when it happened, and I hate it now, regardless of how he turns out. McNolan had no way of knowing how good he may actually be, or how good the team would be this year, and one season removed from the cellar is no time to start mortgaging the future for a project player. Hell, a #1 pick is DEFINITELY no time to draft a project player (I'm talking to you, Alex), yet McNolan did so anyways...whatever, I'm rambling, off on a tengent, but you get the idea. I hope. It's to early to call him overrated, it's too early to REALLY rate him at all, but trading up for him was a horrible idea from the jump and I will never forgive McNolan for it.
When you don't hear the names of o-linemen that means they are doing there job. How can a guy be overrated if you never hear his name (other than .com) I personally have zero problems with him. Like Walnuts said, he was somewhat of a project to begin with. I'll stick with him over kwame any day....thats for damn sure
