Manhandled??? He was BY FAR your best O-lineman last year, he gave up only 2 sacks all season long and was still a dominant run blocker. Not to mention a stump would be better than what the Jets had at LG last season.
he got straight up raped on a consistant basis....hit the stat book all you want, i watched him get pushed around like an infant child. hes always been a good run blocker, but straight up crap as pass blocking. but hes not the dominating force hes made out to be, of course the revolving door of a center mahan didnt help and im sure playing next to a top center like mangold will be good for him, but the fact is hes not worth that money you guys paid him and theres gonna be disappointment in your future
How as he dominated on a consistent basis??? I watched Pittsburgh a lot last season and some things I noticed: -He was your best O-lineman by far (not that that would be incredibly difficult) -He's still one of the best run blockers in the league -He NEVER gets blown up, he may give up pressure and a sack from time to time but he never gets absolutely overwhelmed. See Adrian Clarke last season for us to see what I mean by dominated. He may not be an elite pass blocker but he is far from a liabilty and right now even average pass blocking would be a HUGE upgrade for us. -Big Ben makes all your O-lineman look a lot worse than they actually are at times, he always tries to keep plays alive when he should often just throw it away, that puts a lot of pressure on your O-line. -Faneca gave up, count them, 2 SACKS last season. Clarke for us must have given up at least 10. I'm sorry but that kind of upgrade is worth that kind of money.
Steelers probably got it right. They have a history of getting rid of old players before its to late. The Jets better hope that it doesn't happen again because they put a lot of money into him.
he got continuously BLOWN THE FREAK BACK. ben does not make them look worse because for every sack he takes trying to keep it alive, he escapes from one trying to keep it alive...it goes both ways. I just think back to the NE game and wilfork knocked him AND mahan on there backs several times. You will be disappointed in faneca because he his clearly on the downside of his career and if having the name alan faneca makes you think hes still one of the best.....haha Mahan was the #1 problem, but faneca didnt exactly make everyone else a little better. we got what we needed out of faneca....glad to see him gone.
