State of the Team: Dallas Cowboys Losing in the playoffs to the eventual Superbowl winner is not a consolation to this team or its fans. The Cowboys enter this season hungry and are only a few players from their goal. They seem to have all the pieces sans a CB to pair with Newman or dynamic special teams player. Can Spencer elevate his play in order to eventually take the place of aging Greg Ellis? This obvious pick for the Division crown this season leaves less room for error as the Cowboys are primed for a great season where anything less than a Superbowl appearance would be a disappointment. Coaching Changes: There were several coaches lost as Bill Parcells was recruiting some of his boys back, lol. The Cowboys hierarchy remains in place and ready for the coming season. 2008 Team Needs: The Boys will be looking for a CB to pair up with Newman and allow Henry to play at S more. There is some concern at DT with nothing behind Ratliff and Johnson. Johnson playing well after return from his suspension allowed the Cowboys to move Ferguson. The team has needed a pass rusher from the line ever since Charles Haley retired. Even with such stalwarts such as Ebenezer Ekuban and Shante Carver, the Cowboys have had to rely on linebackers DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis for pressure on the quarterback. Canty has re-signed and has shown improvement as time has gone on, Marcus Spears has been less than stellar thus far Even with a secondary that was burned fairly often, this may the biggest need for Dallas. TO made it through another season happy and productive, he is getting older and entering the last year of his contract. Terry Glenn is getting older as well and may not return. In particular, the Giants game, Patrick Clayton showed his inability to handle the No.3 receiver spot, let alone #2. Possible Free Agent Solutions: The Cowboys have been rumored in almost every deal with just about every player be it a trade or a signing. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are taking the correct approach. They lock down their players they want and are extremely valuable to the team right now. Make a splash signing future HOF LB Zach Thomas, that cant really hurt you. He is not going to be expected to do much, but who knows. Now they want to sign there core to long term deals. Ware is one that should be locked down to a long term deal now to avoid cap problems later (if there is one) Possible Draft Solutions: The Cowboys currently hold the following picks 22nd & 28th (1st round) 60th (2nd round) 94th (3rd round) In addition they have a 4th (125), 5th (156), 6th (190) & 7th (221) With the 1st rounder the Cowboys will get that CB to pair with Newman. Many mocks have them taking Talib or Cason, but I see Jenkins slipping to them. If Tampa passes on him, the Cowboys wont. With the second pick of the 1st round, You can bank on Felix Jones, word is that Double J is enamored with the Arkansas back and is salivating at the opportunity to take him In the 2nd round they address the WR position with a great pick of Andre Caldwell. This kid has a nice blend of speed & power. He has a quick burst and is a fine blocker as well, stronger than you would expect. He has a bit of an injury history allowing the Cowboys to get a potential first round WR in the 2nd. In the 3rd round Dallas gets their eventual replacement for Roy Williams in the form of Arkansas States Tyrell Johnson. The Indians senior safety is the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year after a season in which he became the conferences all-time leading tackler with 363. Johnson, a four-year starter and four-year all conference pick, finished where coaches said he would when they voted him preseason defensive player of the year in July. Conclusion: The Cowboys have some things to work on, but I know that they have a plan in place for this off-season. They had 13 wins last year and dont need to do much tinkering to stay at that level. The Favorite for the NFC East seems on track to repeat or so it would seem.
if we gat any of thos CB,s ill be happy buti wonder if the boys get a jones if that changes and we get felix jones sonner and wr in th first instead of later rounds. but i nthink our pressing needs are cb wr rb in no patricular order
They're the big 3 Omen. But you've got to believe RB is probably top priority, followed by CB. MB111 won't last a few games tis season on his own. Who have we got on our roster, pretty sure Tyson Thompson got cut?
the only reason that RB can be considered a top priority meaning a pick in the first round is because of the multiple picks. Otherwise, S is a huge need. Roy is not the player he once was and is almost a liability, He doesn't get into the backfield for sacks or plays for losses at all. His coverage is suspect. Pretty much all his at this point is a good tackler and there are some that question that as he was run over more last year than I can ever remember. With the Pacman trade almost 100% now, CB gets a little better, but you still have to be careful because one move by that douche bag puts the cowboys in the same position they were in last year at CB. The cowboys have a ton of options including trading picks, I would love to be in their shoes come draft day. and omen, who is that chick in your sig? DAMN!!!!!!!
Saying Williams is almost a liability is nice IMO. Would make a better rotational LB and back in Nickel packages, most over-rated player in the NFL
