It's a good pick up for them. I was thinking this would probably help Alex Smith along in his development, then I read this a little lower on the page:

Say wha? So Alex Smith isn't the for-sure starter? When did this happen?

Its been this way for a long time. With the way Shaun Hill played in his time last year the niners came into the offseason with an open QB spot

well, after week one, looks like Johnson is our best WR.

Morgan will displace Bruce soon enough, and i'm acutally alright with Johnson/Morgan as our two guys. Can't be any worse than it has been.........

I'm cool with a Johnson/Morgan as 1&2. Bruce at three is a nice thought, i don't know of too many teams with a nickle good enough to cover him. Bottom line is that Morgan needs to be on the field as much as possible bc he's going to be damn good! the more reps the better!~

Exactly. We all know it's going to take time for Morgan to learn the offense as well as adjust to the NFL, but he's a playmaker who will help us. I'd love to see him on the fielf as much as possible.

Four weeks later and Johnson is nowhere to be seen. It's been all Gore and Bruce. I know his hamstring has been bothering him, but I'd really like to see more passes to Johnson. Bruce definately knows the offense and is the best route-runner on the team so for now he's the number one. I'm just a little frustrated that Johnson and Davis haven't been used much. Both are playmakers that are either having problems adjusting to Martz's system or JTO just isn't comfortable with them yet.

At least we are scoring TDs this year which is a big step up from the last three years of 6 play FG drives.
