"While the preference would be to trade infielder Garrett Atkins to land a starting pitcher, the Rockies have made it known to opposing executives that Matt Holliday is available. Moving Atkins for pitching - the Angels, Twins and Red Sox are all potential fits - makes the most sense for the Rockies' roster with Ian Stewart at third base and Todd Helton expected to return as the everyday first baseman. "It's going to be interesting to see what happens," Holliday has said repeatedly. Trading Holliday opens up a spot in left field that Stewart might fill, depending how the winter plays out.

They've got to keep Holliday, he's their franchise imo. Trade Atkins if you have to but I wouldn't do that either. The best option to me would be to shop Helton who is in clear decline, move Atkins to 1st and Stewart in at 3rd. Team loses very little if anything and possibly picks up a mid level starter for Helton.

Yeah they gotta get rid of Helton, I'm not sure if any teams would trade for him though. I could see them cutting ties with him and letting him go as a FA.

They'd definitely have to eat a portion of Helton's deal to trade him, plus he has a no trade clause I believe.

As crazy as this sounds I think the yankees will go after helton. With his ability to take a pitch yet make contact is something they have missed since tino was in his prime. Plus they can eat the contract with skim milk.

This feels so familiar to me. Rockies love tearing up a decent roster for presumably better pitching. Always works out horribly. A lot of exciting prospects, but mostly losers at the end of the day.

Yep, nothing the Rocks have done pitching wise has worked for them.....Mike Hampton, Denny Neagle, it's a long long list. It's not a coincidence that the best pitcher they've had is Jason Jennings.....a home grown guy that knows how to use the stadium to his advantage. Most guys are beat before they ever walk into Denver, it's a mental block.
