While the Red Sox have interest in re-signing Varitek, one baseball source indicated the Texas Rangers would be willing to part with catcher Gerald Laird, in whom the Sox had an interest last offseason. Texas has an obvious need for pitching to go along with catching prospect Taylor Teagarden, whom one scout suggested is already a strong defensive player. There is no indication that the Sox and Varitek have had substantive discussions since the end of the regular season. Source: Boston.com
Red Sox trading for one of our Catchers is almost a lock to happen. You heard it here first, Probably be Laird because they won't give up Buckholz for Salty.
He's a type A free agent. Who in their right mind would give up a first round pick for this guy on top of the money he's going to be wanting?
why? They got that young up and coming catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, unless they wanna move him to 1st base or something.
They have a nice young player there as well in Chris Davis. I don't understand why they would want Varitek, but I agree with Roy. One of those two catchers is as good as gone.
We have 4 good young catchers. Max Ramirez, Taylor Teagarden, Salty, and Laird. Teagarden is untouchable and we probaly won't deal Ramirez either.
