New York made an initial offer to free-agent left-hander CC Sabathia on Friday, and the offer is worth more than the six-year, $137.5 million extension the Mets gave Johan Santana last offseason, according to major-league sources. SOURCE: fox sports
I'd rather him take it and go 2-14.......with the yanks finishing 30 games below .500 .......I'm not going to wish injury on someone.:icon_cheesygrin:
I wonder if they actually believe hes worth that much money. Cause to me if I didn't believe a player was worth top dollar than I wouldn't offer it too him. I know all these guys are overpaid these days, but you guys catch my drift. They could have a legit rotation next year if they land CC which looks probably and Burnett or Lowe who they've made offers to. Even though Burnett is a bum imo.
the difference is that santana has a lengthy record of being dominant, aside from 2007 and his stint in milwaukee, sabathia has been only alright. Is 14-11 with a 4.00 era worth all that money, I don't think so.
:word: If CC ends up being a Yankee, I hope he stays healthy, wealthy, and a very slightly above average pitcher.
No one is worth that much money, but they'e the Yankees. Of course they know they're overpaying and that's what they wanted to do. Six years for a pitcher? That's insane. And how is Burnett overrated? He's a classic change of scenery guy. He's got filthy stuff and gets a ton of strikeouts. Put him in front of a good defense and a winning team and his numbers will look much better. As for CC, he's not "slightly above average". He's easily a top 5 pitcher in this league. He's got amazing stuff. You can't take away the end of 2008. Not only are you picking and choosing what you want to look at, but you're creating a much smaller sample size. Even one full season in the majors isn't a great sample size. To make it smaller just makes your judgements less based in reality. Besides, you could just as easily take away his slow start to the past season and make his stats look better. The main worry with this guy isn't his talent, but his health. He throws a ton of innings every season and obviously isn't in the greatest shape. To assume he will hold up for six seasons is a big risk. More so than it is for any pitcher.
CC is weird he was soooo terrible in Cleveland last season than goes to Milwaukee and dominates. It just leaves one to think and wonder. I agree with burnout for the most part. Trust me if you were a Blue Jays fan you would know all about Burnett, one start hes great the next 2 hes bad and it just rotates all season long. He turned in a pretty good season last year though, and he does have nasty stuff just that hes usually good for a stinker.
you are the one creating a small sample of his career as a judgement. aside from what he did for the brewers and the previous year in cleveland, he has been mediocre at best.
How can somebody decline that amount of money?? Next question: Where the heck do the Yankees have so much money from???
