"K-Rod is looking to pitch in the same town as A-Rod. The Mets will have a new closer next season, and Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez wants to be the guy who fills their most pressing need when free agency starts at midnight tonight. Fresh off a record-setting 62 saves for the Angels, the 26-year-old All-Star right- hander will vie with the Rockies' Brian Fuentes for the attention of general manager Omar Minaya as the Mets look to replace Billy Wagner, who will miss the entire 2009 season because of Tommy John surgery. He'll never ever be as good as he was this season... lucky for me, I picked him up for fantasy this year and never looked back...
Be pretty freaking hard to repeat what he did this past season. It was a record breaking year for him. Couldn't have been a better possible time for him to pitch so damn well. Chances our the team he signs with doesn't do as well as the Angels did last season. Seeing him go to the Mets would be funny, Give them a pretty sick 1 2 punch with Santana and him.
@Mets fans: watch J-Roll's speach at CBP when WE CELEBRATED OUR CHAMPIONCHIP! "A team needs more than one player to win a championchip!"
He had a good year, but he really wasn't that great. It'll be hard to repeat, sure, but only because it'd be tough to get so many save opportunities from your team. Saves are such a crapty way to determine how good a pitcher was, because it depends on the team. This might not have even been K-Rod's best year. Off the top of my head, I can name 5 closers who had a better year than him (Rivera, Papelbon, Lidge, Soria, Nathan). It would be funny seeing him go to the Mets if they overpay for him (o give him that fourth year). He'll certainly help them out, but they still need to fill out the rest of that pen. When you've got guys like Maine (who rarely ventures past the 6th inning) and an open spot in your rotation (with Perez likely on the way out), it takes more than just a good closer to finish off a game. If Heilman remains in that bullpen next year, you're going to hear more of the same cries coming from Mets fans as you heard this year. Also, how funny would it be to listen to the New York media and fans after Rodriguez blows his first save?
