The Peavy Thread had me thinking about the Phillies Top Prospects and made me want to post this thread. Who are your team's Top Prospects by your account?

I'll do my Phillies Top 10

    1. Carlos Carrasco RHP - easily our top prospect, can be a bit erratic but has all the tools to be a real good one
    2. Michael Taylor CF - This kid has made big strides in the last year, I rank him a bit high, but I think he can continue to hit at the higher levels.
    3. Lou Marson C - Finally a nice catching prospect, not a lot of power, but hits for a nice average and gets on base
    4. Travis DArnaud C - Another nice catching prospect with better defensive skills that marson, his bat keeps getting better and better from what I read.
    5. J.A. Happ LHP - played good in some tough spots in the majors this year. Lock to make the major league squad out of spring training.
    6. Jason Donald SS - doesn't have the range of J-rol, but he can hit lefties and righties, the bat is for real
    7. Dominic Brown OF - another tools guy, the Phillies love tools guys.
    8. Jason Knapp RHP - Still a ways away, but I like this guy a lot, monser arm
    9. Zach Collier OF - another guy that is a ways away, but has an extremely high cieling
    10. Joe Savery LHP - At one time was a top 5 prospect imo, now I just am not sure. I haven't given up on him, but he is the type that can go 5 or 6 starts giving up 1 run, then give up 5 or 6 in one game.

I would have Kyle Drabeck up there, but I don't know how he will recover from Tommy John surgery

I hated giving up Josh Outman and Adrian Cardenas in the Blanton deal at the time as I had those guys in the Phillies top 5 prospects last year, but hey, we won the World Series. Cardenas is going to be a good player for the A's.

I'd put him in there. He's been doing great in the Arizona Fall League. Otherwise, awesome analysis. I'd put Marson at the top (should be in the Majors to start the year next year as Ruiz's backup and could possibly be starting after the ASG), Carrasco second (I don't think he'll ever be an ace type pitcher, but a serviceable 2 or 3 starter), and Donald above D'Arnaud (and maybe even Taylor), but I agree with all of the players you have in there.

I also love the idea of the thread. I know some of the big prospect names out there, but most of them I never hear of until a trade is made.

thanks burn, I figured with enough people posting their team's top prospects, it would help to get a feel for future players in the league. I also know some of the big prospect names, but would love to read some fans perspectives on players they follow more closely.

The Rangers system is sooo deep its unfreaking believeable, anyone who knows alot about baseballs top prospects will tell you that. I'll get around to posting our best prospects probably be 20 deep. And I'll post the Jays.

    86WARD -

If Drabek comes back and gets his pitches under control, he's going to be good. His curveball was NASTY! I'd stick him on the list...just closer to the bottom right now. We'll see what happens a couple/few months into 09...

I like Drabek too, even though I HATED his dad, lol

    St Louis Cardinals top 10

    1. CF: Colby Rasmus A no brainer imo. Kid has 5 tool star potential. An Olympian although he didn't play and he was just voted the top prospect in the PCL.

    2. RP: Chris Perez Probably the closer for 2009 unless the Cards decide to bring in a Fuentes or someone else. He was 3-3, 3.62 ERA in 41.2 innings this season in the bigs but the guy has a blistering fastball and a very good slider which are the key ingredients in a good closer imo.

    3. 3B Brett Wallace This seasons #1 pick rocketed all the way up to Double A in his first season. Left hand hitting 3B that hit .367 in A ball and .327 in AA.

    4. C Bryan Anderson Left hand hitting catcher hit .388 in AA and .281 AAA this season. There's not gonna be a spot for him anytime soon though with Yadi as the starter for hopefully the next 10 years. I consider him trade bait.

    5. OF Daryl Jones Another lefty....a good thing to have. Hard hitting and he finally showed his potential this season. Named the Cards Minor League Player of the Year. Hit .390 in A ball and .326 in AA.

    6. RHP Jess Todd Card Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Good arm with great control

    7. 3B David Freese Troy Glaus's heir apparent. We got him in the Jim Edmonds deal. He's ready now imo but he has to wait for Troy to leave.....AAA All-Star after hitting .306 26 Hr and 91 RBI.

    8. SP Mitchell Boggs has a good arm and is a smart pitcher. 9-3 3.45 ERA and also went to the AAA All-Star game.

    9. OF Jon Jay another good hitting OF.....hit .306 in AA and .345 in AAA.

    10. SP Jaime Garcia this one hurts because I had high hopes for him next season. Unfortunately he blew his arm and will miss all of 2009. I'm not ready to give up on him though because he's dominant when he's right.

From what I heard, Freese came out of nowhere, he was 25 and never played over single A until last year when the cards bumped him over AA right to AAA and kicked some ass, that is a pretty cool story. What happened to Allen Craig? Is he still in the system?

Freese did come out of no where.....apparently the switch clicked on.....

Craig is in AA Springfield.....he just missed the top 10. He had a damn good season though.

  10. AlexOvechkin

    AlexOvechkin World Champions 2008!!!

    1. SP Carlos Carrasco - He will land in the the starting rotation withing the next 2 years
    2. C Lou Marson - Our next catcher
    3. SS Jason Donald - I think he will be in the Phillies lineup soon if he's able to play 3B
    4. SP JA Happ- He proved everybody that he can pitch well in the major leagues
    5. OF Greg Golson - people have some complaints about him, but I personally like him
    6. SP Joe Savery - I think he deserves a chance in the big leages soon
    7. RP Drew Naylor - some concerns... but I think he's a good pitcher
    10. C Travis D’Arnaud - another good catcher
    8. SP Antonio Bastardo - this guy has good stuff
    9. SP Kyle Drabek - he'll be very good IF he recovers from Tommy John surgery
    10. C Travis D’Arnaud - another good catcher

Dammit, Roy, whatever happened to posting the Rangers' prospects? We could sure use it now that Texas and Philly swapped OF prospects. :icon_mrgreen:

Do you still consider Nelson Cruz a prospect? or is he a big leaguer now after his august call up?

Also, don't you think that's a bit high for Smoak? I mean you just drafted him this year.

    Where is Tommy Hunter?

Some japanese kid and probably some Central Americans. I honselty pay little to no attention to players until they hit the bigs. I like football year round, I take few breaks for baseball foolishness.

mike oxlong The Voice Of Reason

Actually Walnuts, You guys have a sick C in the making in Pablo Sandoval, Dude killed it in the minors and then when called up last year hit like .350 in under 200 AB's, Throw in one of the best young LH (18 y/o) in the minors in Madison Bumgarner and the Giants have a few nice prospects. The Japanese guy you are referring to is Travis Ishikawa, who did alright for the Giants after being called up and had a nice year in Triple A after playing 2+ years at Double A

  16. Roy31

Nah I wouldn't consider Nelson Cruz a prospect I think hes like 27 now. Finally starting to come around though.
