The torpedo Rafael Furcal, who witnessed the game between Licey and Aguilas in the Cibao stadium, will travel today to the United States and it is expected that in the coming hours must sign with one of several teams who have claimed their services from the agency where freedom is inscribed. The player himself told El Caribe that the Athletics are offering him a deal of 48 million and four years plus incentives that could round up 50 million. "The offer from the Athletics and the New York Mets looks tempting, but everything we decide then that I meet with my lawyer, because there are several factors that we have to evaluate, but in general all the offers that we are doing are important and we want to make a decision well thought out, "said Furcal. I saw a post earlier on Yahoo that Furcals agent has denied this is true. I'll check for a link. The agent for Rafael Furcal called “bogus” a report out of the Dominican Republic claiming the Oakland Athletics had offered the free-agent shortstop a four-year, $48 million contract. Agent Paul Kinzer also shot down a rumor the Mets had any interest in Furcal as a second baseman, or that Furcal would be inclined to switch positions. holy crap...I was about to get pissed at that excerpt until I saw where it reported....Seems they have a good grasp of the English language...:icon_rolleyes:
Yeah I also read this was wrong. Sorry for posting it, same with the Renteria to Giants apparently that hasn't been finalized or whatever.
They may have not offered it, but right now they're the top suitors for him, so it's really not that far off-base. I really believe he will end up in Oakland. The Giants seem to be out of the race after almost bringing in Renteria and though the Dodgers won't get any picks from it, they appear ready to let Raffy walk.
