Set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, Jaguars star RB Maurice Jones-Drew is seeking a new deal worth as much as $8 million per year (and approximately $20 million guaranteed), similar to the six-year, $49.3 million contract ($29.3 million in the first four years) signed last year by St. Louis running back Steven Jackson. Jones-Drew has said Bakari is using Jackson's deal as a baseline for mapping out an extension. The club offered Jones-Drew an extension in February, but the sides - who appear to be close to agreeing to approximately $20 million guaranteed - are far apart on the value of the total package. Hmmm, tough call here. He seems like he can shoulder the load. I think I'd feel comfortable giving him that kind of cash.
Not until he shows that he can handle the full work load. His size draws concerns with him being able to do that. Give it another year and then do it for him if he can withstand it.
