The Steelers issued a contract offer this week to quarterback Byron Leftwich, who spent yesterday visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The two-year offer from the Steelers is close to minimum wage for Leftwich, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. The minimum for him would be $620,000 in 2009 and $755,000 in '10. you know, leftwich has now seemingly struck out with 3 or 4 teams that are desperately in need of a good qb. either the nfl teams really don't feel leftwich is a starting caliber qb or he's demanding too much money/guarantees. i think this pitiful offer from the steelers indicates that the league, in general, feels lefty is not a starting qb in the nfl and that he's no better than a #2 at this point. If lefty really wants to start again, he needs to choose a place like Tampa that gives him the BEST opportunity to get on the field and then just accept a minimum contract with a ton of incentives that will boost his pay up if he starts/succeeds.
I dont think money is as important to him as starting, lets face it he hasnt made a ton of money but he probably feels that landing a starting job and proving himself will get him a contract.
