Eagles coach Andy Reid said yesterday in an interview on the morning show on WIP-AM (610) that the team checked into the availability of Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin before the NFL draft, but found the price too high. Reid suggested the price might have been first-, third- and fifth-round draft picks. "That's a lot of picks, No. 1," Reid said. "And then you're going to pay the guy $10 million. So you get hit on both sides of it." Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
glad they at least made the call. arizona set themselves up in a situation to say they tried to trade him but didn't make it realistic for teams to pull the trigger.
Arizona was never going to trade him anyways. Just 'listened to offers' so that it looked like they were at least trying. Story closed.
Yea, he did jack up the price for Boldin and Braylon with the RW deal. ...Snyder would make a deal like that also.
10 from a organization that was 40 million above the salary cap. Fact is, if it worked and the Eagles won a SB, no one would question the contract. If it didnt work so what, your still way under the salary cap. Take a risk sometime Philly!
Basically Boldin would cost a 3rd and 5th. I don't think the cost of a 3 and 5 is too high if they get him under contract for a few years and can make a few runs at the big dance. The downside for the Eagles was going to be that they would have to pay him more than what he is worth...but if it gets you to the dance is it too much? I doubt that the Cardinals were ever serious about trading him...
Hes also a injury risk and dont know how long he will be in the league. I like the addition of maclin the guy could be a stud for a long time.
don't you mean 40 UNDER the cap ? i think your team actually educated many teams on why you dont trade away high picks and then sign guys to giant contracts.
I still dont think Boldin is needed for the Eagles. Jackson and Maclin are 2 explosive young receivers to build the future around. Yes neither have Boldins skill, but for what the Cards want in return for him I stick with Jackson Maclin 1-2 punch, and fill in more wholes in nexts years draft with the picks it will cost you to get Boldin.
Blame Mike Holmgren for setting the trade value by giving up a 1st for Branch. That pretty much set the market value for vet WR's
A first isnt that bad for Vet WR, it is when it becomes a first plus something else then throw something else on top of it.
