Patriots RB Laurence Maroney has been returning kicks in OTAs. Maroney showed some nice pop in that role as a rookie in 06, but he has stayed off the special-teams units since as the Pats have tried to mold him as their featured back. The Pats traded their kick returner from last season, Ellis Hobbs, opening the spot for Maroney. Source: Pro Football Weekly

that is what i was thinking i bet he carries the ball alot less as a rb and saves most of his touches for returns
They won't baby him. He'll do both kicks and run the ball. If he physically can't take it, maybe he should look for a new career. So far he's been a basic bust, so he needs to finally produce the numbers, that they paid him to put up.
If he doesn't get the job done returning kicks, there's a good shot he could be the odd man out. You gotta figure the starting/3rdRB backs are Taylor and Faulk, respectively. Green-Ellis showed a lot of promise last season. Throw Sammy Morris in the mix...
