Professional football, the American variety, might be returning to countries like Germany, Spain, England, or Italy in the next few years. United Football League Commissioner Michael Huyghue, whose league currently only has franchises in New York, Orlando, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, is in Europe today. And, per Huyghues Twitter account, expansion to Europe with new UFL franchises could be in the offing in the next few years. Currently in Europe, Huyghue wrote today. Foreign expansion for UFL very likely for year two or three. Some fantastic soccer stadiums that would work perfectly.

  2. Nice...!!! In Europe we appreciate football too, and will be a really good way to make a true expansion...

Playing a game per year in Englans IS NOT an expansion...

The cost of flying over there will kill an upstart league. Hope they lose this tunnel vision quick or it's dead before it gets off the ground.

    Yawn.

Let's make sure they're not just one and done like the XFL :icon_confused:

  6. Well, I agree with davematthews3, but maybe the solution is to have a conference in Europe and another one in the States, and play one against each other just in play off... Every year in a different place... it's just an idea. Anyway, we had this yet, was called World Football League, the "father" of the NFL Europe.

NFL Europe was first WLAF trust me I have the trading cads.

TJ dont you see the XFL failed because they did not expand into Europe. j/k

I would like for the the UFL to work, I like watching football so the more of it on TV the better I feel. That being said the UFL is going to be played at the same time as the NFL and NCAA. Unless it has some new rules to it like the AFL did you are going to have a hard time marketing this. They need something that sets them apart.

  8. NFL Europe was World League of American Football, you're right. But the usual name was WFL, at least me and my friends always called it like that... Maybe you have the trading cards, but I have the media guide from the first season... :icon_cheesygrin:

Anyway, we are talking about a league that had teams in Barcelona, San Antonio, Orlando, London, Montreal... right? :icon_wink:

Yes the one and the same. I always called it Waffle, bad joke but it fit. I would keep the media guide it could be worth something. The first season I watched about every game that came on that season. Later they ended up showing only the championship game and then not even that. It was fun while it last I thought.

for this to work, i would have to see 2 divisions in the league.... a europe division and an american division just like NFC AFC, but they only play in the final? just a posibility

i would love to see an england team all we have is 1 nfl game a year... woopie...

  11. Don't complain, we don't have a single game a year... :-/

    Bring back the NFLE....

  13. Well, if they have to bring back the NFLE, they have to change some things before... The main idea was good (having "pro" football in Europe), but the way they did it... sucked... That's the reason why they are not here anymore.

    DoubleC i'm ready now...

I think I'd follow a UFL team if it played in Paris. Maybe even attend home games...

The NFLE was killed when they disbanded the WLAF for that year. The Monarchs had a huge fanbase and that hiatus year really screwed things up.

I would like a return of a European league, but maybe it taking on backups from the NFL rather than the practice squads.

Andy, I don't think that wa the reason for it. At Frankfurt, we had no problems to bring the fans back into the stadium. btw, it was shut down for 2 years 93/94

DC, I wonder you would support a UFL team at Paris, while you always stated that you didn 't care about the NFLE, even if they would play in your backyard :icon_confused:

footballspeach, as a vivid fan of the NFLE, I said more than once that the missmanagement killed the league. The NFL didn't care about European belongs and tried to use the US system 101 here - complete failure

  17. Hell yeah... One think I always thought that was wrong was that we had new players EVERY year.. It's imposible for a casual fan to feel identificated with a team than year per year changes 95% of their men...

And they didn't care about the national football, maybe they could make anything else for us, and make us feel involved...
