If anyone was more stunned than many Buffalo Bills fans when Chris Berman was named by Bills owner Ralph Wilson to present him at the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, it was the ESPN anchor himself. Berman said stunned and humbled were the words that came to mind after Wilson made the telephone call in February three months before the Bills announced it to ask him to be the presenter at the Aug. 8 ceremonies in Canton, Ohio. He said, I have a little favor to ask of you, recalled Berman in a telephone interview. Source: Buffalo News
1) For being a stubborn old man who should sell the team to Buffalo investors for the good of the franchise but instead he's content to take the team to his grave. 2) He's cheap. He's always been cheap and doesn't spend his money on the team wisely. He won't pay a GM, coaches, or scouts market value in return "gets what he pays for" in return from the draft. 3) For butting heads with Bill Polian & AJ Smith. That worked out real well for the Bills letting both those GMs go. Never let ego get in the way of team building. Clearly both those guys are smarter than Wilson. 4) For refusing to live in Buffalo all these years. I could go on but I'm lazy...
Wilson couldn't find any former player or coach that knew and respected him, damn. I would have though Marv Levy, Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas...maybe one of Wilson kids, or another owner...definately doesn't seem like Berman's stage to me.
