Former Patriots safety turned NBC studio analyst Rodney Harrison says that he should be in the Hall of Fame, but predicted he would not get fair consideration from the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee five years from now: "Probably not," Harrison said, "because just look how the NFL has looked at me all these years. Ignoring my stats and my impact as a player and a teammate. Focusing on the negative. Do I believe I'm a Hall of Fame player? Absolutely. Will I make it in there? That's up to you guys," Harrison told Gay, who is a member of the board of selectors for the Hall. "But I know that I did all I could do." In the interview, Harrison continued to make provocative comments about the sport: He called the Pro Bowl is "an absolute joke," more a popularity contest than a true honor for achievement on the field. Yea you also were suspended for taking PEDs. Tooting your own horn doesn't make you look like an butthole at all. Freaking idiot.
He may have hit the nail on the head with the Pro Bowl......but to the rest.....I will never think of Harrison more than a dirty piece of crap that should have been black balled years ago.
I know alot of people hate Rodney, but I think it might be a little different if he playeg on your team. The fact is though he was an impact player, who gave 110% all the time...my gut says he should definately be a hall of famer, he did however take PED's and as much as I love the guy I look at baseball and the guys who took PED's, and I have said they shouldn't be in the hall. If voters dont vote in Rodney for that reason I really can't argue, I'd be a hypocrite...PED's are wrong in sports period...doesn't matter why you took them.
Right, what I'm about to say is pretty much how things are. At the moment, I can think of at least half a dozen great safeties that had much better players than Harrison (Darren Woodson & Steve Atwater are two of a long list) who haven't yet made the HOF. Also, the Hall of Fame is reserved for the greatest players of all time, I honestly cannot think of a season where he could be even considered as a top 5 safety in the NFL. Now if you add the PED'S issue and the fact that he was a scumbag player, I really doubt that he would make the Hall of Fame before entering the Veterans Commitee Vote.
I think he was great, but I can't criticize other players for PED's and not Rodney...and I don't think he should tell everyone he should be in the hall. The HOF is a priveledge and you should handle it that way. There are plenty of guys that had to wait to get into the hall for years and handled it with clbutt...Harry Carson comes to mind. I love Rodney, but if nothing else it's not ok to come out a month or two after you retire and talk about how you belong in the hall, nevermind that if you don't get there its because you got blackballed. Wether people hate the Patriot's or not, not many Pats players would come out with this additude....it's disrespectful to me.
That's true and a given. That's why people voting for the HOF shouldn't be biased fans of the teams he played for. Also, the Rodney hate goes all the way back to SD... ya know, back when I bet a nice chunk of Pats fans hated him too. Yes, I would have rooted for him if he had been a Giant. He was a very good safety, who did make an impact, and did give 110%, but that doesn't make him a HOF'er. I don't see him as a HOF, I just don't see it.
I think I've been pretty non homer with my posts on this one, but if we're going strictly by the numbers how many safeties in history have ever recorded 30 sacks and 30 INT's over the course of their careers.... Answer: Rodney Harrison take away the PED's and the lobbying, and going strictly by the numbers no doubt in my mind he's a hall of famer, I can't argue the fact that he took PED's, and is running his mouth now though
giving it all you got doesnt make you a hall of famer, loving the game doesnt make you a hall of famer. he was a good, yet unspectacular player his whole career. hes notorious for being a dirty player and quite frankly he doesnt have the credentials to be a HOFer, especailly at safety, a really tough position to be reconized at
No way should be in the hall for numerous reasons, he was a good player but I just can't overlook some things, and campaigning for yourself to be in the hall of fame is pathetic.
only safety to ever record 30 picks and 30 int's those numbers dont lie again PED's, inexcuseable in my eyes, if thats why he doesn't get it I completeky respect it as said before lobbying for yourself, especially right after retiring is disrespectful to me
i would always remember him 2 be a Charger first. and b4 the leauge got tough on spear hit and head shot. he was doing that 2 every1 then. as far as his work in a pats uniform...i think it was average at best by HIS standards. i think he really fell off abit when he went there. or it could have been how good the D was there. Anyways...i dont think he is a first ballot. maybe he'll get in.
