Say this about New Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris: he's nothing if not brutally honest. Morris was asked about his expectations for third-year pro Gaines Adams, who has 12.5 sacks in his first two seasons. "Double-digit sacks,'' Morris said. "That's what he's graded on, there's no secret about it. I've got no problem telling him, "Hey Gaines, if you don't do it this year, you're going to be considered a bust.' I told him that in a team meeting. I tell him that every once in awhile when we walk out together. He can't wait. He's embraced it. He's going to come out ready to play. There's no other thing that's going to define Gaines Adams other than sacks and production. Production speaks volumes...I wouldn't say it's do or die. But if you ask what is it going to take for Gaines Adams to go over the top? Double-digit sacks.'' Source: St. Petersburg Times
Yep all the local talk shows are calling Adams out as a bust if he doesn't put together a career year. I think it's a bit too early to sick the dogs on him just yet.
I can see how they want sacks but as long as he's getting to the QB, getting some knockdowns and hurries will be just as helpful.
Nothin wrong wih setting double digit sacks as a goal. I like what Gaines brings to the table. He's always near the action...run or pbutt. The Bucs need better play from their DTs this year.
I think we will get more pressure from Bates defensive scheme then with Monty's. Monty focused on the turnover rather then the pressure. It remains to be seen I guess.
We'll see, I'm not sure we have the players for Bate's scheme yet. He likes huge DTs and CBs who can play man coverage. Can't wait to see the position battles in camp. Unlike most years, we'll get to see the young guys get some snaps instead of has been vets. Roy Miller and Kyle Moore could be solid sleepers.
