The Patriots were impressed enough with the workout by quarterback Cleo Lemon on Friday to issue a contract offer, according to a league source, with the sides working on a deal. Lemon, who has spent five years in the NFL, with stints in San Diego, Miami and Jacksonville. Second-year pro Kevin O’Connell, a third=round pick, had been in line to be the backup to Tom Brady following the trade of Matt Cassel to Kansas City, but Lemon would provide a veteran presence to offer competition for that spot as well.
