With Brett Favre under contract now, the Minnesota Vikings have four quarterbacks on the roster, and they'll be looking to make a roster move. Some have speculated that QB Tarvaris Jackson, a second-round pick in 2006, could be cut. But after speaking to several personnel people, there is anticipation the Vikings will be shopping Jackson shortly. "There's not a lot of quarterbacks available," one exec said. "A fifth (round pick) might be too high for him, because he has a ways to go. But there will be a market for him." "It's not good to hold the kid hostage," he said. "It may become a problem if you keep him around."

Here I was about to make a thread about how the Vikings would have to release John David Booty and who might want to sign him.

This kid is now one of my favorite players. I hope he has a HOF career wherever he ends up.

I did hear rumors about Green Bay earlier today.

That would be stupid, IMO. He may not be very good (yet) but trading him because of Favre signing is a bad idea. After all Lord F is there for a single year (supposedly). What will the Viks do next spring? Go after another rookie QB in the draft? Or place all their hopes in Booty?

Jackson has had a couple of good flashes (Cardinals game last year is a good example), but for the most part he has been very dissapointing. He can't read a defense, he's not accurate on ~50% of his deep balls, he gets rattled WAY too easy (deer in the headlights disease) and he has poor touch for the short outs, or passes to the flat.

Sage is definitely an upgrade from T-Jack, and when Favre is gone (or injured) Sage will be our best option. Booty isn't ready yet, but given some time behind Favre and Sage he might turn into a decent QB.

And to top things off, Jackson is very unhappy with the turn of events and I could see him being a distraction in the locker room for the rest of the pre-season. The vikings can't afford to carry 4 QB's, and Booty and Sage have more upside than Jackson does. So I say trade him if they can.

60% of Jackson's shortcomings are the coaching staff
The other 40% are his own

Sporadic, inconsistent coaches are often the downfall of young QBs, especially one with raw talent that has yet to be molded (Jackson). If the Eagles hadn't snatched Vick, I could've seen him going there to learn under Donovan, he's a perfect mentor for a young guy like him. Young black males like to look up to older black influences.

Other than that, I could see Josh McDaniels doing something random by brining him to Denver or Carolina taking the risk....
