Jets owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum, both of whom were fond of Brett Favre, had said after the season they wanted him back, but it was clear that once Rex Ryan was hired, the Jets were no longer interested in seeing if Favre's second act could be better than the first. Here's the biggest clue: Ryan was hired on Jan. 19, three weeks and two days later before Favre "retired". Not once did Ryan pick up the phone to encourage Favre to return, to suggest a summit meeting in Hattieseburg, or just to say hello so it's safe to surmise that if Ryan wanted Favre, he would have lobbied for him to come back. I would not have wanted him back, I would not have signed him if I was the Vikings. T-Jack and Rosenfels could prob do just as well as Favre can
I really don't think Favre's 'holier than thou' act would've gelled with Ryan's style - tho it could have been sweet to see these two butt heads, I bet Ryan would've stuck it to him pretty good in the press.
Smart move by the Jets, look to the future. No need to wait until training camp for a decision from him.
