The NFL has decided not to take any action for this season regarding the Cowboys' 90-foot high digital scoreboard that hangs over the field at their new stadium. In a memo sent to every team, Commissioner Roger Goodell said if a punt hits the board – or any guide wire, sky cam or any other object at any other stadium – the down will be replayed, just as the rule stated before Tennessee's A.J. Trapasso's kick nailed it last week in the first football game at the stadium. The do-over rule will be in place for the rest of this season, including Saturday's preseason game against San Francisco and through the playoffs, however, the issue could be re-visited in the future. "We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved," Goodell said in a statement. "The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution." Source: The Dallas Morning News
This is simply freaking goobered. Wonder what kind of kick back Sheriff Goodell got from this ruling?
The thing I keep hearing being talked bout is that a punter can kick it that high but he would be given up a lot of distance on the kick. Meaning that Roger does not think it is going to happen a lot during the season. Take into account that most time some one punts they kick towards the sideline and not the middle of the field it should not come into play that often. P.S. I am going to start calling the score board "Brett Farve" because it seems like that is the only things that people want to talk about.
Why don't you call it Jerrah Jones. He loves the attention. Of course it gets talked about, it's got so much "glitz and glitter"!
I thought about "JJ Love Child" but I went for Brett Farve. The reason JJ likes to do things to have the Cowboys in the public eye. However, "Brett Farve" like the other Farve can do nothing for months and still have ESPN report on them everyday, not to mention the 5-10 threads here about it.
They went out there with McBair and he could hit it but he said you had to try and hit it. I take that to mean that you were kicking for height and not distance, also most times punters kick towards a sideline so it should not come into play that often.
Rekicking is stupid the special teams is really tired from running down the field the first time. Thats what happend to us in the pats game where we had to rekick.
They want JJ to move it just nail the 'boys every time it happens with a 15 yarder before the re-kick. Call it a delay of game. :icon_twisted: Watch it get mysteriously raised one off week...
You know what else is a non issue......just raising the freaking thing 10-15 feeet. Don't give me that 2 million dollar bullcrap, if your rasing it for a one night concert it's not that big a deal... and don't give me the line of site bullcrap either. Accept for the crappy performances of the home team being displayed on it, a screen that big will look just as nice moved up 10-15 feet. Jerruh is just a giant attention tramp
So at what week does a punt returner look up at one of the screens to watch himself and then muff the punt?
I don't see the big deal, other teams ought to be thankful for this, if your punt is high enough to hit the screen that was going to be a crapty punt anyhow. End of discussion.
That's not necessarily true.... several punters in the league can get it up that high and still drop it down with some distance. It's called hang time and it's pretty nice cause it leads to alot of fair catches inside the 10 : )
I still go back to McBair said you had to try and hit it. I would think that he knows something about punting and hang time.
Who? If you mean McBriar..... yeah he would have NO reason to lie here WHATSOEVER. Would he? And even if he IS telling the truth maybe that has something to do with him being a mediocre punter recovering from fractured foot.
