The Patriots have released Walter, his agent Jeff Sperbeck confirmed to me in an email. Just now, we found out why. Last night, quarterback Andrew Walter stood and watched the fourth preseason game from the sidelines as former Patriots fourth-stringer Brian Hoyer assumed a starring role.

    Patriots Release QB Andrew Walter

Quarterback Andrew Walter was informed the New England Patriots are releasing him, an NFL source said Friday. This means that rookie quarterback Brian Hoyer has, for now, won the competition to be Tom Brady's backup. Hoyer was impressive in the Patriots' regular-season finale against the Giants, and the Patriots are not expected to trade for or sign another veteran QB.

Did he get paid his $80,000 roster bonus?

Schefter claims in his version of the story that it's unlikely the Pats trade for a vet now

I would not be surprise he wasnt impressive at all. Hes pretty much done with the whole pushing J-Rock thing. He makes to much money to hold the clipboard and I think we would be better off with Garadkowski an Frye in a back up role.
