The 49ers have announced that Shawntae Spencer has won the team's starting right cornerback job over Dre' Bly and Tarrell Brown, reports Matt Maiocco on his Twitter account. Spencer went to University of Pittsburgh. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2nd round (58th overall) in 2004 NFL Draft. Source: Matt Maiocco on Twitter
I thought it would be Bly, but I have to say I feel pretty good about the secondary to start the year. Of course, Spencer still has to prove he can stay healthy.
Spencer isn't coming out of nowhere, this guy has been on the niners for 5 years now, he hasn't played hardly at all since 2006 because of injuries. He was a second round pick in 2004, but like I said is injury prone. Brown is the best CB of them, but was injured too much of camp to get the nod. I wouldn't be surprised to see the niners rotate RCB's until Brown takes the job for good.
wierd after all the things you hear about Brown and Bly competing. Spencer looked like a future superstar as a rookie and in his first year pro
this indy fan was watching shawntae spencer's rookie year closely when he wasn't even double digits in age, lol google whacking alert....lol
I remember reading good things about him back in 2005 or 2006. Then he almost totally disappeared. Good to see him back.
