The Cowboys have a potentially outstanding cornerback trio in Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick. But the only other cornerback on the roster played primarily free safety throughout training camp and the preseason. Phillips mentioned that he feels good about the Cowboys' depth overall. "That's barring injuries," he added. "I don't know about a lack of depth," Phillips said. "We have Alan Ball, who was our fourth corner last year. He can come in and do that at any time and will if we need him to." Source: Dallas Morning News
I mean, when was the last time Newman played a 16 games in a season, if ever at all? I'm not even sold on Jenkins yet. His cat move against the Giants last year made me sick. The fact that Scandrick is close to beat him for the 2nd CB positions says a lot. Who the hell is after them? And don't even get me started about the safeties. I'm starting to be afraid we'll miss Roy Williams.
I like Ball as the #4, he held his own for when got the call as a NB last year. Overall Jenkins had a better rookie year than Scan, but that one play sticks out in peoples minds. He does need to be a more assertive tackler, especially for someone billed as a physical CB IMO the top 4 are a very good. Problem is that 5th spot can alway's come into play, considering alot of teams use the #4 in Dime, and that why I was dissapointed that Smith got cut over Watkins 5th rounders generally dont clear waivers, and was making a position change............freaking stupid move IMO
there is no 5th, we have 4 CB's. lol now that we moved ball back to CB from S. so that makes 3 of us.
we have 4 cb --t Newman. Scandrick Mike Jenkins and allan ball and 5 safgeties ---Ken HamlimG erald Sensasabauagh, pat watkins mike hamlin and marvin white
We signed Mick Mickens to the PS so that is our 5th CB. Ball can handle the nickle stuff if we need him to but will be over matched as a starter, but how many 4th CB can be solid starters.
Usually we carry 5, and I think most teams carry 5. Dont know why they went with 4 and cut a young player that can play both for an injury prone STer
