An attorney for Tila Tequila rejected the denials of Chargers LB Shawne Merriman on Tuesday and maintained that the player assaulted the TV personality during a conflict Sunday morning. "Shawne Merriman and his advisors have decided that the best defense is a good offense, attacking Tila Tequila in the press with a lot of calculated spin to cover up his illegal and indefensible actions," Tequila's attorney, Alan Gutman, said in a statement, via the AP. Merriman was arrested early Sunday on allegations of assault and false imprisonment against Tequila, an MTV hostess. Merriman denied the charges and said he was trying to help Tequila, who he said was drunk, get home safely. "It is never justifiable to brutally assault, choke, strike and imprison a woman," Gutman said. "Once the truth is fully revealed, Mr. Merriman's fantastic story of how he was trying to keep Ms. Tequila safe will be completely discredited." Source: USA Today

Isn't Merriman in a contract year? Unless the Chargers franchise him in 2010, say bye bye to San Diego Mr. Merriman.
