The defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals have announced that they have received a 24-hour extension to avoid a blackout for their home opener on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The deadline to sell out University of Phoenix Stadium has been extended until 1:15 p.m. local time on Friday. Typically, the blackout deadline is 72 hours prior to kickoff.

Totally sad. A tragedy really. In the Super Bowl and can't even sell out the FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON.

they were having problems selling championship game tickets. People in Arizona just don't really care, I have been there. There are some die hards, but the majority could care less about the cardinals.

I live in AZ and there are a LOT of transplants here who follow their previous home teams for the most part. Cards came here in 88, but have been crappy for so long that people don't believe that they can actually be good. The games that sell out the fastest are those that have a big following from other places. Vikings (got my tickets already ), Dallas, Packers all sell out super fast here.

But yeah, it's pretty depressing because if they do get blacked out, it's one less game to see on TV because they don't play another game in that time slot.
