Veteran defensive end Richard Seymour broke his silence following his trade last weekend to the Oakland Raiders from the New England Patriots, telling the Boston Herald he was caught off guard by the development. Seymour said he's traveling to Oakland today to report and plans to play in Monday night's game against the San Diego Chargers. "First of all, I was blindsided by this whole event," Seymour said. "When you get blindsided, you should take a moment to gather your thoughts. I have a lot of personal issues more pressing than football. ..There are a lot of different emotions. Football was not my main concern at that point. I have had discussions with the Raiders… I'm excited and happy with the way they're looking at me." Seymour, who said he'll wear No. 92, said he didn't demand that he won't be franchised. "There have been conversations, but I didn't demand anything to go there. I'm happy to go there, and I told them that. But me and my family have never been separated. This was a difficult transition."

He'll instantly improve the defense, but I still don't think he's worth a 2011 first round pick...

Raiders DE Richard Seymour Happy To Be In Oakland

Defensive end Richard Seymour touched down in Oakland on Saturday a little less than a week after he was traded to the Raiders from the New England Patriots. Thus ended a bizarre situation that lacked clarity until Seymour and others outlined the details. "I've really been blindsided by the events that took place," Seymour said at an early-evening news conference that also featured Raiders coach Tom Cable and managing general partner Al Davis. "I didn't expect it. I didn't understand what was going on. So, it's like when something happens, when you're blindsided, you have to step back and realize what situation you're in. And my thought within was, 'Hold on, I can't go anywhere at this point.'" The Raiders responded by sending Seymour a letter Thursday informing him that he had five days to report to the team or face a season-long suspension without pay.
