New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips will battle an ongoing issue with his left knee all season, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. Vacchiano said there are no details on the specifics of the injury, but is is expected to linger throughout the season. We’re not going to play doctor, but that sounds like it could be something that will eventually require arthroscopic surgery. It’s a pain issue and obviously the swelling is a big part of that. “It sucks," Phillips told Vacchiano. "You have a good camp and you get a small injury, it kind of gets you down a little bit. But the coach keeps being positive and I'm trying to keep a positive attitude.â€￾

Seems like usual for most players (but just earlier than most) except they have been leaving him out of practice to keep the injury from being a problem and thus had to answer questions about it. Normally Coughlin wouldn't mention it.

At the end of last season both Cofield and Robbins had knee problems and at least Robbins had a broken hand (if not both) and you never heard about it. A lot of players have minor injuries that plague them through the season on all teams. Just sucks it is this early in a season when Philips was going to show his abilities.

Giants have the worst luck with Safeties.. I swear that position is cursed or something. I remember when Shaun Willams was showing his skills he got messed up.. Girbril left - Although I think he was more of a system player. Butler left.. but he was slower then a turtle.

I was looking forward to seeing him shine.. I hope he continues to progress and feels better but this is def. a set back if it lingers him all season.

I mean.. not everbody is Plax (no pun) who can sit out every practice and be a menace on Sundays!! lol

Injuries make the biggest difference on who makes it to the Superbowl.....it's very hard to overcome injuries to your best players (or just crucial position players like the NT in a 3-4 or MLB in a 4-3)
