New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin didn't have any new information on WR Domenik Hixon, who suffered a sprained knee in the first half against Dallas and did not return. Even if Hixon is available on Sunday against the Buccaneers, it would seem unlikely he'd play ahead of Mario Manningham and Steve Smith. Source: Newark Star-Ledger
Hixon at best is the 4th best reciever on this team. And thats not saying anything bad about him because i truely believe that Smith, Manningham and Nicks are a lot better than what people pegged them a few weeks ago. It's amazing what mini camps and a whole offseason to extract the right plays for the group can do. It also helps that teams are still stacking the box, that will end soon.
Hixon had his shot to take over for Plax in my opinion but he never consistently stepped up, he's still a good player but Smith and Manningham have took advantage of their opportunities, this is very good problem to have....and Hixon is great return man
To be fair, the Giants have been hoping for the excuse to put Hixon back on Kick returns because he has shown good ability in that area, and it is one area in which we simply don't have a threat apart from Hixon (as he has taken a kick back before). With Manningham and Smith stepping up, they can have them be the starters and reduce Hixon's reps at WR so he is fresh for returning. As for Nicks and how that effects Hixon's reps, we'll see what he displays when he gets back on the field.
well, the timing between eli and manningham and smith seems to be clicking right now so why mess with a good thing?
