When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, the NFL waived its television blackout policy so Saints fans could watch even if games moved to Baton Rouge didn't sell out. Now, under extraordinary circumstances of a different sort - a recession that has made football tickets an unaffordable luxury for many - the league isn't budging. The NFL says it has no plans to lift its blackout rules because of the economy, so if games don't sell out - as could be the case in up to three cities this weekend - local fans won't be able to watch on TV, whether at home or in a bar. I dont get it why would they want to blackout games? How is it good for them? Who the **** wants to watch golden girls instead of a football game anyway?!
the point of the blackout is in hopes of getting them to the stadium instead of staying home right well who can afford the games at this point in time
Goodell, you are the biggest butthole. I hope someday that you are in finacial ruins and they blackout The View so you have nothing to watch. d**k!
He watches Jane Skinner on Fox News @ 11:00 am est. She is his wife. Was the pun intended on the Headline?
I wish the Arena League or some other football would be willing to fill in the hole on TV when this crap happens. The NFL can only pull this crap because they have no competition.
The ones that lose are the fans...but the TV stations lose big time. The revenue they bring in from an NFL game compared to regular programming is significantly different...they're the ones that get screwed the most...
While the idea of blackouts aren't a bad thing in theory, encouraging full stadiums makes the game better for everyone, but it seems idiotic to not adjust things to recognise the current situations e.g. reducing the amount of tickets that have to be sold while still having sizable crowds or reducing the cutoff point for sales.
People in Detroit can't even afford food. Let alone tickets to one of the most overpriced leagues in professional sports.
If a game is blacked out in the states are they then shown on tape delay or just not shown at all? In european football (soccer to you lot) you don't have every game shown live e.g. in the english premier league none of the 3pm saturday games are shown live on tv due to the negative effect that would on attendances of lower league clubs that are also playing at that time, so the issue of live attendance is something all sports are concerned about. **********Automerged Doublepost********** A handy coincidence would be that supporting the lions would make you lose your appetite anyway, if not the will to live. :icon_cheesygrin:
