They say it takes three, four, maybe even five years to fairly evaluate an NFL draft clbutt. Running back Rashard Mendenhall and wide receiver Limas Sweed are doing their worst to disprove that. It's almost as if they are trying to prove that the Steelers' 2008 draft class is a bust. Read more: Steelers' 2008 draft class a bust so far
I'd say the 2009 Steelers are a bust so far, losing to the Bears then the Bengals. I guess Ben is no longer undefeated in Ohio. Who's next the Browns?
calling mendenhall a bust is idiotic. timmons was a bust to most people after his first year too. sweed is just a big heartbreaker to me, i had high hopes and still do. i hated the davis pick, avril was there for the taking. Hills has shown nothing, humpal was a waste, mundy is poised to take over for clark. dixon is good for what he is and where we got him, hes a backup. mendenhall wont be a bust....but they need to get him on the field. i cant wait til summers, shipley, urbik, harris are out of football so we can talk about them lol. wallace looks like a stud, probably should have gone #7 instead of DHB lol all we know about evander is hes an ok pass rusher lewis and burnett....meh
Mendenhall has shown very little potential when he is on the field. I'm not saying he's a bust, but things aren't looking good. When you say he's not, what are you basing it on? I hope you're right, but he's showing very little to no potential when he's out there. He runs the wrong way, goes into the line with hesitation, goes into the line sideways. He had the 39 yard run against the Bears, but that surprisingly had to do with the O-Line opening a hole big enough that you or I could run through... Sweed just lacks patience and concentration...patience to catch the ball at times and then concentration to hold it...he'll be relegated to behind McDonald this week...but it looks like they more than make up for that pick with Wallace. Summers, Shipley, Urbik and Harris can leave now...Urbik, out of those four, may turnout as a depth player but I doubt it.
i dont think mendenhall is getting a fair chance, i like what is see from him more and more when he plays....he plays lower, runs harder, has less hesitation every week....but he didnt see the field last week? i dont think that was a good decision on the part of tomlin. sweed just breaks my heart....plain and simple
Mendenhall didn't prepare for the game...Tomlin can't stick him out there if he doesn't know what he's doing. Sweed could be good...he's got to put it together...
Mendenhall needs a few more carries to make a fair assessment, but it ain't looking good. For him to be a running back, on a Pittsburgh Steelers team, a #2 running back, and not get touches? says alot... Even guys like Zereoue, Fumatamfala, and Duce Staley were getting 100 touches a season, backup running backs were always seeing 100 touches. I understand that was a different ERA but its the Steelers, that's the way they've been for a long time and I think it's what Tomlin Ideally would want to do.
I'll agree that he hasn't gotten enough carries, but the few that he has had haven't looked promising. He'll probably get a couple starts this season...pending a Parker injury...
I think he will vbe fine with a few touches we will see since parker has turf toe what mendebhall will do this week.
