Derek Anderson will replace Brady Quinn as the starting quarterback Sunday against the Bengals, coach Eric Mangini announced Wednesday. Mangini said "giving Derek the opportunity is something I think will help us offensively.'' He said Anderson's performance on 3rd down Sunday in Baltimore -- including 3-of-4 on a field goal drive -- helped him clinch the job. He said he needs to improve on throwing interceptions, after throwing three in Baltimore, he also said he expects Quinn to continue to work hard. "I'm not saying it's all Brady,'' said Mangini. "Derek did some things that were positive and that's what it's based on.'' Source: The Plain Dealer
Derek Anderson had more plays calling for passes down the field. But, its the same old reason he didn't win the job in the first place, too many stupid interceptions. I think it will help in the short term because Brady Quinn has been playing scared (with good reason). It doesn't really matter though. John St. Clair sucks ass, the run blocking across the line has been horrible, and no one but D'Qwell Jackson can tackle on the defense.
He can challenge down the field which helps them, at this point Quinn doesnt have the run game and developed wr's around him he needs to be successful.
I agree. The interceptions are just gonna come with the DA package. Anything is better than watching that offense over the last 3 weeks though. Mangini should have waited until this week or maybe even until after the bye week to make the switch. Putting DA in the second half on Sunday was pointless and just stirred up all the same BS we've had to read about all year. (or decade if you change the names a couple of times)
