Colin Kaepernick certainly maintained the hot hand after throwing for 231 yards and accounting for two touchdowns against the Saints Sunday. But Jim Harbaugh remained tight-lipped about who his starting quarterback would be moving forward.

"He acquitted himself very well," Harbaugh said vaguely when asked if Kaepernick still had the hot hand and thus the starting job.

So, is he still the starter, Jim? "We'll address that later."

Harbaugh did say that Alex Smith's Nov. 11 concussion - and his symptoms eight days later - played a big role in going with Kaepernick Sunday against the Saints.

"The injury, and the fact that Alex had symptoms seven days later, eight days later from the concussion and, I've just had some bad experiences. Not going to put a guy back out there who had symptoms like he had," Harbaugh said. "They were serious enough. Now he eventually got cleared. But the thought was to rotate him back into the action but not all the way to the front line. Thought that would give him a chance to get cleared up completely. That was the rationale."

Smith, who was cleared for action Saturday, said he hadn't been told who the starter is moving forward, either. "No idea. Honestly. Don't have any idea," Smith said.

this is a tricky situation for harbaugh for sure .............. sometimes the back-up qb actually ends up being better (see tom brady) and if Kaep starts to struggle, they can always go right back to Alex since he's healthy but if not handled correctly, it could mess up some chemistry.

i personally believe that harbaugh is doing the right thing by keeping Kaep in there for now. right now, kaep is doing more for that offense than alex can do and even though there is a possibility that kaep will become less effective as defenses adjust to him, there is also a possibility that he will get better, which could make all the difference for them in January.

Lol no. If Kaepernick continues to play at this level there wont be a player in the locker room who wont want him starting. Except for #11 of course.
