San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York said Sunday via text message that the team will hire a general manager and ultimately a new head coach, suggesting Mike Singletary will not return next season. The 49ers parted ways with former GM Scot McCloughan in March and have operated without someone in that position since. Vice president of player personnel Trent Baalke, whom York said would be a candidate for the job, has handled GM-type decisions. York, speaking after the 49ers were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams, said the team will conduct a GM search that will then lead to another head coach. Singletary could be gone before the 49ers' season finale against the Arizona Cardinals next week. Source: Jason La Canfora, NFL.com
After that bullcrap on the sidelines between him and Smith I think it's time to go coach. You've lost you locker room, no one respects you.
SF was supposed to run away with the West. A coaching staff with elementary level football knowledge could have coached this team with the current roster to a 10+ win season. There is no excuse to be 5-10. Farewell SingleT
yep, there is only 1 reason for the niners to keep singletary at this point ......... to save money ........... and they may lose a lot of fans for a long time if they made that decision so in the long run, they may not save any money.
