49ers Expected To Franchise Tag NT Aubrayo Franklin

Discussion in 'San Francisco 49ers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Feb 15, 2010.

  1. ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed on NFL Live Monday that the 49ers are expected to franchise tag NT Aubrayo Franklin "in the coming days." Schefter isn't saying anything beat reporter Matt Maiocco hasn't already made clear, but it appears there are no substantive talks about a long-term deal between Franklin and the Niners. The franchise tag for defensive tackles costs $7.003 million, Franklin, 29, is coming off a career-best season.

This would be a good move. He hasn't been consistent enough for a big long term deal, but he was very good last year and is a big part of that defense.

Why not transision tag him? There is no way he commands that amount of money.

I haven't seen anything special about Balmer, Franklin came into his own this year. Balmer was a project and I'm not sure the coaches feel he is ready.

im sure franklin would be thrilled with a tag.

balmer was terrible in college, he was one of those guys they thought his potential could make him a better pro than college player. 34 DE is probably his best fit, but i always thought he could play DT and maybe NT if he put a little weight on
