ESPN reported the 49ers are interested in claiming outside linebacker Shawne Merriman if the Chargers release him as expected. David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports 49ers coach Mike Singletary said he likes his four-man rotation of outsider backers just fine. "I think they're doing a good job," Singletary said in Monday's news conference, one day after a 17-9 victory over the visiting Raiders. "I think they're applying pressure, they're winning some of the one-on-one battles. I think they're doing a good job overall." The Chargers placed Merriman on the injured reserve list with a calf injury last week. When healthy, they will release him - and at 1-5, the 49ers rank high on the waiver-claim list. For now, Singletary does not sound interested in adding a $3.269 million player for half a season. "If there's someone out there that makes you better, you're always going to look at it," Singletary said. "But I like our guys right now." Source: San Francisco Chronicle
As I stated in another thread Merriman would prolly wanna play for a winner. Itd be cool to have him here but hes just not the same player he was.
Doesn't matter what Merriman wants, he's not a free agent. You guys make the waiver claim and nobody else wants him that has waiver priority, he's yours whether he likes it or not. He's not a free agent that gets to choose his destination.
